1/30

Day 1 of the 30/30 Project

DSC_0159

  • Grab three 4x6 photos.  Doesn't matter the direction or
theme.  Don't over think it.  Just grab three photos that you
like.  Maybe ones out of that stack sitting on your desk.

  • You'll need 1 sheet of 12x12 card stock.  One sheet of a print
paper that you enjoy.  A coordinating piece of cardstock.  And
an embellishment.  In my case, I used a 4x4 QuicKutz flower die
    cut & a 2x2 QuicKutz heart.

Here's what I did:

  • Cut one 1 x 12 strip of pattern paper.

  • Cut one 2 x 4 block of the same pattern paper.

  • Cut one 1/2 x 12 strip of solid coordinating cardstock.

  • Lay your photos on the base card stock.

  • Arrange the pattern paper & the 1/2 inch strip as shown.
There is a tiny border of the base cardstock showing between the photos
    & the papers.

  • Adhere to the page.

  • Add your embellishments.  In my case, the flower was cut out of
two coordinating pieces of cardstock.  I cut letters out for
"Jady-Bug" from the QuicKutz font Sticky Note.  I popped the flower
up on foam squares because I like dimension.  The heart at the
bottom was cut out of coordinating cardstock & then matted on black
cardstock scrap.  The heart was then covered in diamond
glaze.  Once that dried, the heart was popped up with foam squares.

If you'd like to do this page exactly like mine, we have seven (7) kits
available for todays project.  The kits are just $5 and include
everything you need to make the page, including foam squares, diamond
glaze, QuicKutz flowers & the heart, as well as two sheets of the
Sticky Note alphabet.  Get yours before they're gone!

30 Pages in 30 Days

Yep.  You read that right.  Together, we're going to create 30 pages in 30 days.  Here's the deal:

  • It's FREE to participate.  Honest to goodness.  FREE.

  • I'll post a page a day on the website and in the store in September/October...NOT including weekends.  We all need a break once in a while...plus, it'll give you a chance to catch up for the week.

  • That means you'll see pages September 1st thru October 12th.

  • The pages will have basic instructions and/or tips to complete them.

  • My goal is to use photos that are already in my photo sleeves.  (Don't know what I'm talking about?  Then click here to read all about it.

  • I'm using 4x6 photos.  No enlargements...who's
got time for that?  Now occasionally, I might use an odd sized
school photo...who doesn't have a ton of those?

  • These are simple pages Simple pages=done pages.

  • They are single page layouts.  I know, I
know.  Many of you do double page layouts and that's great!
But when you are using the photo sleeves mixed in with your scrapbook
pages in your album, double pages are not a necessity.
Honest.  Need a tip on how to make page 2?  Just ask!

  • You can use paper & embellishments in your stash.  If you would like to do the page exactly like I did it, we have made a limited number of kits for each of the pages that
you can purchase for $5 each.  These pre-cut kits include a photo
of the page, pre cut papers & if I used them, they'll contain two
sheets of the QuicKutz letters I used.  Some page kits have die
cuts on them...they'll be in the kits, too.  The first page uses
diamond glaze...and that's in the kit.

  • Mark your calendars now:  Saturday, November 7th, we'll have a "30/30 Project" FREE Crop from 4 pm to 10 pm.  Participate
in the project & you get to come to the crop!  Admittance is
proof of pages...completed or not...space is limited to 18 & if
loads of you participate, then we'll open up another crop...however many
    crops we need, we'll have!

  • I've set up a new category, directly under the blog header named
"30/30 Project".  All of the pages can be found there.

  • I'd recommend that you do not wait til the end of the project to get started on it.
30 pages is overwhelming in a few days.  30 pages in 30
days?  Not so overwhelming.  Promise.  Remember, these
are easy.  Can't get your pages done each
night?  Then come to a midnight Madness to work on them  In
September, Midnight Madness is on Friday 9/11 and 9/18.  It's from 6
pm to midnight.  You can easily create the weeks worth of pages in
    that time.

Do you have questions?  Post a comment here (because lots of you
may have the same question).  Feeling shy?  Then email me
directly at the email link in the upper right corner of the website.

Pages begin posting tomorrow.  I'm so excited!  Are you?

I have to apologize...

I've been a bad blogger this week.  I've been trying to adjust
to Kendall's school schedule (which, by the way, impacts my internet
time greatly, and I'm not happy about that).
I've been to Phoenix twice in the past week to buy goodies for the
store...some of those goodies started arriving yesterday & we've put
them out (Pink Paislee Twilight and Amber Road...Bo Bunny...SRM Press
calendars...Sugar Tree travel papers...all of which are divine!) And
then there's this killer headache that I've had since Thursday
morning.  Not sure what that's all about but I'm ready for it to be
gone...

Anyway, all excuses aside, I can tell you blogging will
be back to normal on Monday.  I'll be revamping the blog...adding
the September Class Schedule (it's up at the store...just need to add it
to the site).  And then there's the September Contest Kit, the
August Contest Kit Winner, oh, and that 30 pages in 30 days thing I told
you about.  All of which I'm wildly excited about!  I hope
you are, too!  Oh, and I have to send the September Newsletter out
& the September birthday coupons...sure hope you're signed up for
our email list!  You wouldn't want to miss the monthly
emails!  If you're not on it, just send me an email with your name,
email address & the month of your birthday & I'll get you set
up.

Seems this apology has turned into a to do list....I feel that headache coming back on...

If you've missed taking "The Little Things That Bring Me Joy" class,
now is your time to catch it again!  I'll be teaching at 3:10
pm on Friday, October 2nd and again at 8:30 am on
Saturday, October 3rd.  The class is just 1 hour long

cardstock.  It's a fantastic technique that you'll find yourself
using over & over again!  Register for one of these classes at the CKC-Glendale website here.
The class is just $22 & it includes the cutest little bottle of Art
Institute Glue you've ever seen!  (Art Institute Glue is my
FAVORITE glue...ever!  And the cute little bottle makes it that
much better!)

The August Contest Entries are IN!  And it's time for you to

Paint the town red contest...

we came in 2nd & couldn't be more thrilled!  I know the gal
who won first place...Brenda Silveus from Pioneer Title...and that girl
rocks!  They decorated all of their building...windows, floors,
walls, ceilings...they 100% deserve to win!  And you know, our
display is pretty darn amazing, too!

DSC_0073

We'll leave it up for a few weeks...make sure you come by & check
it out!  And if the Cardinals make it to the Super Bowl again,
well, you'll see it again!

Thursday Make-n-Take

DSC_0066

Every Thusday we do a make-n-take for a buck. You might be
asking yourself, "what on earth is a make-n-take?".  Well, it's a
quick, easy project that we provide the supplies for...you supply $1 (ok
$1.08 including tax).  You'll learn a technique or two & leave
with a great little project.  Most of the Thursday make-n-takes
are cards so you'll have a card ready to send to your favorite
someone.  On today's project, you'll be using the Fiskar's Wavy
Paper Crimper & a scalloped circle punch from EK Success.
You'll add ink & a button...all very useful techniques!  And
hey, even if you think you know how to ink & add a button, you never
know, maybe our way is easier!

"Please won't you be...my neighbor"

Getting ready to write this post & what pops into my head but Mister Rogers "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood".  Oh, how I wish life were that simple again...
Rogers-767958

ANYWAY, the whole point of this post is to ask you to be an About
Memories and More fan on Facebook.  Just go to the little box on
the right upper corner in Facebook & search for About Memories and
More.  Then click the little "fan" box.  It's that
simple.  Just trying to see how many fans we can generate...it's
kinda fun!

(Is the song stuck in your head now? It is mine!)

Edited to add:  apparently, it's
not as easy to find us as I would have hoped.  But I think I have
it figured out!  Search for About Memories and More.  When the
search screen comes up, on the left hand side is a tab that says
pages.  Click on that & wahlah, we're there!  Thanks!

Craft Bazaar & Open House

Mark your calendars!  We'd like to invite you to participate in
our first ever Craft Bazaar & Open House, Wednesday, September 16th
from 5 pm to 8 pm.  We'll have wine & cheese...a make -n- take
& some free demos.  Plus, we have many talented crafters who'd
like to show you what they have to offer!  It'll be a great girls
night out!  (If you'd like to sell your hand crafted items, tables
are just $10.)  And you know me...there's sure to be a special or
two floating around!

A little inspiration...

Here's another
school photo of Kendall from the now nicely organized school photos
binder!  Lovin' this page, too!  The photo is
an 8x10, in case you were wondering, and it was taken in the spring
of her 6th grade year.  It remains one of my favorite photos of
her.

DSC_0054

Her shirt says "I
eat boys like you for breakfast".  The "flower" is just a strip of
paper that I pleated outof my scrap paper...lately I'm inclined to use
every bit of paper and not throw it in my scrap bin.  I
used the Rebel line from Glitz Desins & I'm lovin' it!  Here's
the flower a little closer:

DSC_0057

The star brad was
gold, which wouldn't do.  So I tapped it on my Versamark pad &
dumped white embossing powder on it.  Heated it up & then
quickly dunked it back in the white embossing powder & heated it up
again...I'd recommend using pliars or long tweezers to hold the brad or
you'll burn the heck out of your hand.  If your embellishments
don't work as they come, then change them.  Enjoy!

Back to School

DSC_0017

(this is the best back to school photo I can now hope to get from an almost 15 year old...sigh.)

My daughter is back in school & I've found myself a little
sad...grateful, but sad.  Where did 15 years go?  I pulled out
her school photos the other day, determined to make some pages.
But like you, I struggle with those school portraits & what to do
with them.  I decided that my options were 1) just slide the 8x10's
into an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet protector & add them to my albums (which
are 12 x 12...the difference in size doesn't matter to me a bit) or 2) I
could organize them in those 8 1/2 x 11 sheet protectors & then
scrapbook the ones that happened to be speaking to me at the
moment...knowing that all the others were tucked away in a nice orderly
fashion...which until last week, they were in a pile of "I'll get to
that later" stuff in the middle of my craft room floor.

DSC_0024

At first I was really sad going through all those photos...wishing
I'd been a better mother...wishing lots of thing, actually.  But
the more I looked at the photos the more I realized that my daughter is happy
And that, my friends, made the whole process worthwhile.  It made
it worth pulling them out of their yellowing photo packets...digging
through that mess on the floor...even the tears that came with realizing
your baby is growing up.  And, as a result, I created this easy
page that I adore.  Kendall took one look at it & said "I don't
remember that at all".  Um, how do you not remember wearing a cap
& gown???  6th grade was SO long ago...

And then I made 4 cute cards out of the scraps (one is above):

DSC_0025

All of the paper you need to make the layout & cards is at
the counter..it all only took 7 sheets of
paper...really!  We even have an apple template for you to
make the cute teacher cards...or use it to make a cut out
for your back to school page.  See you soon!

Mindy's Birdhouses

Join Mindy Saturday at 10:30 am to make some super cute bird houses
out of paper!  Stop by the store by 6 pm tonight to reserve your
spot for this fun class!  Mindy will have you laughing &
creating the whole time...she's awesome!  And the class is just
$18!  What are you waiting for?

Birdhouse

Don't you think they'd make great Christmas ornaments to give to your
friends & family?  Or add a ribbon to the top & tie it to a
bottle of wine for a new house present or hostess gift.  Or better
yet, fill it to the brim with chocolate & hide it in plain sight on
your desk...no one will be the wiser....

Thursday Make-n-Take for a buck!

DSC_0003
Make
this great scalloped note card using our die cut machine!  It's
quick...it's easy...and it's just $1!  Great card, Heather!

From the Garden

DSC_0083
We
enjoyed our first ripe tomato from our garden last night.  It was
the best tomato I've ever eaten.  Seriously.  And the first
one I've ever grown.  A little deformed...but it was yummy!

My garden is off to a very slow start this year....how's your garden doing?

Sneak Peek of our cool Cardinal's window!

The judging for the "Paint The Town Red" contest isn't until August
18th...so I'm not going to show you the whole window yet...wouldn't want
to give away all our secrets (well, that & it's not quite done yet).  It's coming together very nicely!
DSC_0064
Like I said, not done yet....

DSC_0075
My
favorite part of the display is all of the handmade paper things my mom
made.  This "burger", the "chips", the "salsa", the "pickle",
"onion", & "lettuce" are all made out of cardstock.  Awesome,
don't you think?

DSC_0078
This
made me laugh like mad when I made it.  I know, what a dork.
But it's a fan to cool yourself off....  ANYWAY, I have to take
the coke bottles out of the window...turns out Pepsi is a sponsor of the
contest...wouldn't want to hurt our chances!

DSC_0069
I
love to make bag toppers & fill goodie bags for parties.  Have
been doing it for Kendall forever.  Maybe that's why she doesn't
want a party...hmmmm....or it could be the pinata & sidewalk
chalk?

Monday, August 10, 2009

Today...

I'm feeling a little melancholy today.  And I'm not sure
why.  The more I think about it, the worse it's getting.  It
could be because Kendall is starting 9th grade this week.  Or maybe
that she's turning 15 in less that a month...AND she doesn't want to
have a birthday party.  With her friends or with her family.
It's so shocking to me that she doesn't want to have a party that now
I'm obsessed with it.  This is the girl who would start planning
her next years birthday party when all the guests from this years party
were leaving...so why suddenly no party?  Somehow I feel like I've
failed as a parent.  I know, ridiculous, right?

10:10 am edited to add:  she doesn't want presents either....no party...no presents...what's up with that kid of mine?

On a happier note, I went to see Julie & Julia yesterday.
70511_aa

I loved it!  Great movie!  I'm so glad that I read "My Life
In Paris" prior to seeing the movie.  Not a typical book for
me...I don't usually read non-fiction.  I'm more of a
murder/mystery/smut kinda girl (mix all 3 & you have the perfect
book!).  But I really enjoyed both the book & the movie.
So much so that now I want this:

2401885005_79d9a37609_o

I'm a little afraid of it.  Reading "My Life in Paris" was eye
opening.  The things they ate.  Lots of fish...which isn't
bad, but they cooked it with the head & skin on...which completely
grosses me out.  And when you went to the market to get meat, it
still had fur on it...even hoofs attached.  Just typing that inched
me that much closer to being vegetarian.  Not there yet,
but ewwwww!  The funny thing about me wanting this 700 page
cookbook is that I hate to cook.  Maybe it's because I don't get
home until almost 7 every night...or that I suspect I may be ADD (which
is totally not a joke...I start reading a recipe & think "Oh, I can
do this!" and then improvise the rest of the recipe & wonder why it
sucks.  If I'd just followed the directions it might turn out
better).  Whatever the reason I just don't enjoy it.  But now
I'm obsessed with this book & for some reason think it will make me
love cooking.  Um, maybe I should start on a smaller
scale....  Maybe if I cook from it I will find that I really am passionate about cooking (that just made me laugh out loud!).  Still....

The deadline for the "Paint The Town Red" window display was extended
to Friday.  We hope to have ours up sometime Tuesday.  I have
to say, my mom crafted the most excellent paper items for our
display.  They are so good that a customer thought we had purchased
the items she made.  Nope.  Wait til you see!  I promise
to post photos, but really, you should come check it out...every single
thing is fabulous!  Even the charcoal briquettes!  The detail
is AMAZING!  (the lettuce is my favorite!)

After the "Paint The Town Red" display goes up we'll be working on
back to school.  I know.  Should have already done that.
But we got so wrapped up in the Cardinals contest that it got put on
the back burner.  I've grabbed a stack of Kendall's school photos
& the plan is to make some page using them this week.  I have
some great ideas & we have some great school paper in the store that
should make it a breeze!

Paint the Town Red

Fridays during Cardinals Training Camp are fan days!  Wear your
Cardinals shirt to the store today & get a 10% discount off your
purchase.  Not bad for just wearing a shirt!

We're
participating in the "Paint the town red" contest that the Flagstaff
Chamber of Commerce is putting on.  There are two
categories...outside decor & inside decor.  We're doing inside
decor & have been working on our display all week (takes a bit to
craft all those bits of paper).  You're supposed to show your team
spirit.  The Chamber is judging next week...winners will be
announced August 17th.  While I can't tell you what we're doing
yet, I can give you a sneak peek:
