Our gal Sherry is simply amazing at making mini books....she took these products (and a few others)...
and made this FANTASTIC mini book! (The questions she used are from the Simple Scrapbooks Quizes book)
I just came across an amazing idea for old Christmas cards...in
Cooking Light of all places! Cut the fronts off all your old
Christmas cards & use them as recipe cards....very cool! I'm
embarassed to admit that I have years...probably 16 years...worth of
Christmas cards in a big green box that I just add to every
year....using them for recipe cards is a GREAT idea! And you know,
we just got in these big recipe boxes from Creative Imaginations that
should hold a big Christmas card....hmmmmm....what a great gift, too!

Ok, this book I just made, well, it ROCKS! I needed to make a
project for an upcoming private class & just wasn't feelin' the
love...then yesterday it finally struck me....I need to make a book
about things that bring me joy...and so I did. And here it is:
Now, how do you start a book like this you might ask? Well, I
made a list of 12 little things that bring me joy. Then I ran
around town this morning & took photos for the project...some of
them I had, but most I took today. Here's my list:
The book is made up of 4 sheets of 12x12 cardstock. I cut them
into 4x12 strips, scored & folded them & then glued them
together (it'll be a class in January). Stop by the store &
I'll show you how to do it if you'd like to make them for
Christmas. It has 3 double sided print papers & 12 4x6
photos. Oh my, it was FUN to make! Just took a couple
hours...which led me to thinking that it would make a perfect album for
holiday gifts! I drew my sister in law's mother for our gift
exchange & I'm going to make her one of these with her 2 grandson's
in it. Here are some other ideas: friends, 10 things I love
about you, my favorite places to visit, things I'd like to do (like that
1000 places to see before I die book)...the possibilities are

Had some time to kill today & decided to put rock star highlights
back in my hair....well, one thing led to another and.....well, four of
us ended up with rock star hair...definately a scrapbook moment!
Mackenzie was sooo happy to have the highlights....she thinks she looks like Lilly from "Hannah Montana".
And Kendall got to have the red for a reward...her progress report
was 4 A's & 3 B's...way to go girl! And Maria, well, she's my
super fun friend who came over to do my hair & ended up doing hers
Mackenzie's is striped on top & Kendall has two stripes in the
front & most of the underneath in the back. We figure, it's
only hair. Life's short...enjoy every moment...and these moments
I have a confession to make....I am much more organized in my head
than I am in real life. Over my many, many years of scrapbooking, I
have created a multitude of "perfect" ways to store my photos. I
won't bore you with the gory details...just know, I've tried them all
with little success.
A while ago I had an "ah-ha" moment and decide that I would transfer
all of my photos from regular albums into these awesome linen albums
that we sell by WeR Memory Keepers. They have a two inch post to fit lots of pages and WeR also makes 12x12 sized photo sleeve pages
that I could slide my photos right into. And then I could just
scrapbook the moments that I wanted to....not every single photo.
(I chose 12x12 postbound Silverstone Linen albums...very neutral, which I
love.) I think I have finally hit the Holy Grail of
scrapbooking! This system is so gonna work for me! I wish I
would have thought of it sooner! Unfortunately, I had, oh, I don't
know, 30-40 photo albums to yank the photos out of. It has taken
me forever, but today, I finished pulling out the last photo...from 18
years worth of photos. I wanted to do a dance I was sooooo
happy! Yeah me! It may have taken me forever, but I
can see the light at the end of the tunnel. It probably took me
longer than it would take you....after working more hours than I care to
admit, I was just too tired (read: lazy) to tackle it. You see,
when I start a project, I become obsessed with it. So, yeah me
that the photos are out of the old yucky albums and are in really cool
new sleeves....and oh, no, I still have at least 20 photo boxes to go
through...in all their stages of my previous organization
attempts. BUT there is now a light at the end of the tunnel!
I'd like to share a few things I've learned during this project:
It's ok to only have one set of photos printed.
Duplicates are not necessary! You can reprint the ones you want
to scrapbook, and save yourself some serious cash! I cannot tell
you how many photos I threw, yes, threw away! What a waste of
Put your photos in a photo album for your family to enjoy.
Don't rely on your computer to be your album. I cannot tell you
how many people who have come in that had a hard drive crash & they
lost them all. If they're in a photo album, your family can enjoy
them anytime they want!
You don't have to use separate albums for your photos and your scrapbooks. I
chose the WeR albums because they were 12x12, they held photo pages AND
scrapbook pages. And you can even use odd size protectors,
like an 8 1/2 x11 protector to hold art work, report cards or other
miscellaneous memorablia that go with the photos.
You don't have to scrapbook everything. That mentality will just hold you back from scrapbooking the moments that you really want to scrapbook.
Don't forget to journal. You can
slide a 4x6 piece of cardstock in the photo sleeve to leave your
thoughts of those particular moments. It's really important.
If you wait until you have time to scrapbook a whole layout you may
forget the very essence you were trying to convey.
Here's just a fraction of my mess....keep in mind I've been working on this for months! And this is nothing compared to what it was!
Ok, now this is just embarassing! Piles & piles of
stuff EVERYWHERE! Most of the stuff out of the photo boxes is
memoribila...I keep too much stuff!
I had a lot of negatives to deal with that were pre-digital
scrapbooking. I just couldn't throw them away. I purchased Print File Archival Preservers negative sleeves locally from Photographic Works...I
got 100 for around $22...I slid each negative into the sleeve &
marked what the negatives were on the top of the sheet (there's a white
strip) & then punched holes in the index print and put them all in a
3 ring binder. Yes, I know I shouldn't have a great big glass of tea
next to my photos...big no-no!
These are the albums I'm using. I take enough photos that I
get about 1/2 a year in one book. The stack you see next to the
albums are protectors I still have to put into albums....I'm going to
merge completed scrapbook pages with these from my other albums.
I'm hoping to have all my albums be the same...and when that's done, I'm
running to IKEA to get my idea of the perfect storage center for
them! Or maybe Bob-o will build it for me! I've told myself I
have to wait for my project to be 100% done before I can even think of
buying the unit I want...well, that & win the lottery, but let's not
get ahead of ourselves here.
If you find yourself with some free time this Saturday stop by the
store & check out the huge table by the register....it's filled with
things that are 50% off....there's tons of
letters....halloween....ribbon...really, just tons of stuff I over
bought. My error is your gain! I've been adding to the table
today & it's a bit over flowing. Check it out....you never
know what treasures you may find!
On another note, a gal I know has this beautiful house in Sedona and has just started a scrapbook retreat: Sedona Scrapbooking Retreats
. The scrapping room overlooks the red rocks...it's an all
inclusive weekend....lots of food....lots of room....comfy
chairs....comfy beds...a private chef on Saturday...really, you'll have
to check it out! I'm contemplating trying it out in December and
believe me, if I can swing it with my staff, I'm going! 3 days of
me time? Sign me up! Anyone want to join me?

mention the dozen or so new Accu-Cut die cuts that we have for you to

I was reading the Mary Engelbreit Home Companion magazine
the other day (we just started carrying it in the store...but I've
loved it forever) and I found this profound comment that I thought I'd
"A well-chosen holiday card is like a celebration in an
envelope. It packs an emotional punch that can't be equaled by a
mere phone call or email, bridging the distance between us in a very
The other comment I liked in the magazine was in Mary's Scrapbook
"...I still write actual letters to my friends many times each
week. There's nothing more touching than holding a letter and
knowing that a friend's hand brushed the page." (quoted from Patti
Burtels letter to the editor)
So if you've taken a breather from making cards, maybe it's time to
start again. Use your leftover scrapbooking scraps & drop a
card in the mail to someone you haven't spoken to in a while...or even
someone you just saw. It'll make their day!
So much to share today so bear with me...
